Abbey's Expanding Vocabulary

Abbey has been saying several new words each day and at dinner tonight she surprised us with two more, neither of which we taught her (I swear!). We decided to go out for a family dinner at a kid-friendly pizza buffet restaurant. After a few slices of pizza, Scott went up to the dessert section of the buffet and brought back a few things for us to all share: a cinnamon roll, a brownie, and a pizza slice with an apple strudel topping. Abbey enjoyed a bite of the apple strudel pizza and then pointed to the plate and said "brownie" (or more like bow-ie). We were both like , "where did she learn that?" So I cut her a piece and she popped it in her mouth and asked for more. After a few more, she licked her fingers and said, "chocolate" (chaw-ate). I honestly think that she has only had a bite of something chocolate 2-3 times, so she didn't learn these words from us....we are chalking that up to day care.

Professional Spoon User

Abbey's coordination has really improved in this last month and Scott and I now declare that she is a professional spoon user and clearly a lefty. She can even eat peas and cheerios with milk with a spoon now (a few do still occasionally go over her shoulder though)...and yogurt is a breeze. Abbey is just delighted with each bite and loves to proclaim "mmmm." This might even inspire Poppy Waun to eat peas!

New pictures posted

As promised, I finally got around to putting up new pictures. I posted back-dated blog posts for the new stuff. Please check it out, and email me if you have any problems with the site... I think everything should be working now! Hopefully this new format will make it easier to quickly put things up, as they happen!

Welcome to the new Waun.net! (Take 2)

Welcome to the new Waun.net! It's the second major redesign of the site in the last 2 months. I've been running the site off of a computer in the house until now, but I just didn't have enough bandwidth to do what I was trying to do. Instead, I have a variety of Google services powering the back-end of the website (although the visual style should be identical to the changes made last month). If something doesn't look right on your browser, please let me know!

For now, I'm going to try to continue to host the photo albums from home... we'll see if it slows the site down too much. I'm using Blogger to power the blog, and a site called "Vimeo" to serve up videos. We'll see how these services work out... I might need to change things up again.

This weekend, I'll try to catch up on pictures... I haven't put anything up since February. As I add albums, I'll add blog posts, and back-date them so they appear chronologically.

Cincinnati Zoo

We enjoyed the nice spring weather this weekend by visiting the Cincinnati Zoo. It was especially nice since the spring Tulips were still in bloom. Our membership runs out after this weekend, so we'll probably not be back for a while, considering how crazy things are sure to get this summer!

Boonshoft Museum of Discovery

We continued our children's museum tour this weekend by visiting the Boonshoft museum up in Dayton. It was at least as nice as the Cincinnati children's museum. We're lucky to have so many nice museums so close... another place we'll visit often, I'm sure. Check out the video below for more.

Nana and Poppy Visit!

Nana and Poppy visited this weekend, and we had a great time... other than the fact that Skybus went out of business on Saturday, stranding them in Ohio! Luckily, they were able to switch to another airline for the return flight, just in time to fly down to Cancun for their anniversary. Other than that drama, we had a great time. Abbey enjoyed having Nana and Poppy babysit on Thursday and Friday.

On Saturday, we went to Parkey's Farm, a local petting zoo. We had a nice time, but there weren't really that many animals close enough to pet, other than a really ugly goat.

On Sunday, we went to the Cincinnati Children's Museum for the first time. It's a great place... lots of things that were right up Abbey's alley. We'll definitely be returning soon.

March Family Pictures

Here are a bunch of family pictures that we took throughout the month of March. Included are a few pics from Makenna's 6th birthday party.

Eichstadt Cousins Visit

This weekend, Dave and Kate came down from Chicago with little Mikey to visit Grandma and Grandpa. On Sunday, Andrew came down with Makenna and Quinn, giving us the opportunity to get all of the cousins together on Amy's side of the family. Grandma was able to find matching outfits for Makenna and Abbey. It was really fun to see all of the kids play together and see Abbey idolize Makenna.

Easter

We celebrated Easter alone this year, and once again, it was too cold for Abbey to wear her new Easter dress without a coat. We were able to get her to sit still long enough to get a few cute pictures, however.
